Message from the organizers

On Friday, June 23rd, 2017 we welcome you to partake at the evening race SNF RUN: Running into the Future. The race is an integral part of the Summer Nostos Festival (SNFestival) that is organized and funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and will take place from 18th till the 25th of June at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).

The public road run SNF RUN is held for the third consecutive year and is organized on the occasion of and in homage to the Olympic Day. For the first time this year, a 10K run will be organized concurrently with the 6K SNF RUN. Both 10K and 6K, SNF RUN start at the center of Athens, at the Panathenaic Stadium, the hosting ground of the first modern Olympic Games, while the 1K race for the Special Olympics will start on Syggrou Avenue at 20:40

The 10K race is scheduled to start at 20:40 from the Panathenaic Stadium, while the 6K race will follow 10 minutes after at 20:50. Both races follow different routes that take you from the city center to the Stavros Niarchos Park on the coast.

On behalf of the SNF RUN organization committee, we welcome all runners from all over Greece and abroad, to participate our event and run the roads that connect Athens City Center with the Kallithea waterfront, and cross the finish line as one team at the new Park of our city.

Information

Participation in the race is free of charge and runners may register online at www.SNFRUN.org. The race has as its primary goal to reward participation and effort and enrich our sense of athleticism. Despite its non-competitive nature, the 2017 10K and 6K SNF RUN’s will be officially timed.

After the completion of the two runs (10K and 6K) a medal ceremony will be held for the three medal winners (Men and Women from each run). Meanwhile all runners to cross the finish line will receive a commemorative medal.

The SNF RUN is made possible through an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and is organized and overseen by the NGO Regeneration & Progress. The race is organized in collaboration with the Hellenic Olympic Committee, under the auspices of the Hellenic Police.

  • 10K Race Details

    Event Date and Τime: Friday June 23, 2017 at 20:40

    Race Start: Panathenaic Stadium. Runners will be assigned to three different starting corrals.

    Finish line: Stavros Niarchos Park

    Eligibility: The race is open to anyone above 15 years old, and more specifically, born before 30/4/2002. Participants are assumed to have an acceptable level of fitness and be in good overall health to race, and must sign a waiver to that effect. Registration is available only online at www.SNFRUN.org. Applicants younger than 18, are required to provide signed consent of participation by their parent/guardian.

    Entry Fee: Participation is free of charge.

    Registration: Participation is limited to 3,000 runners for the 10K race.

    Registration Package: All participants shall be given an official race number (bib), a souvenir bag and a SNF RUN tech T-shirt.

    Electronic Timing: Despite the non-competitive nature of the run, the 10K race will be timed. Timing devices (B-tags) will be attached to the back of the bib numbers you will receive. All runners to cross the finish line will receive a finisher’s medal.

    Course info: The run starts inside the Panathenaic Stadium. Runners will start off going uphill Vas.  Konstantinou Avenue, turn left Vas. Olgas Avenue towards Syntagma at the “Dromeas” statue. Then they will enter Vas. Amalias Avenue and turn right uphill onto Dioinisiou Areopagitou till they meet Gkali Street and turn around downhill, back to Vas. Amalias Avenue. Turn right at Vas. Amalias Avenue and enter the southbound side of Syggrou Avenue. At Lysicratous Street, they will make a right turn into Doiranis street, and then turn left into Evripidou Street to enter the Stavros Niarchos Park and cross the finish line.

    How to get to the Panathenaic Stadium
    The Panathenaic Stadium is easily accessible by public transport: bus, tram and the metro. Ideally located at the heart of downtown Athens, the Panathenaic Stadium is a short walking distance from three central metro stations, “ACROPOLIS”, “EVANGELISMOS” and “SYNTAGMA”.

    TRAM STOPS: “ZAPPEIO” and “VOULIAGMENIS Avenue
    TROLLEY BUSES: 2, 4, 10 and 11

    How to get to the start of the 1K for the Special Olympics
    The meeting point and start is at Syggrou Avenue #316, station name “CHRISAKI”

    How to Return from SNFCC
    For the runners’ and visitors’ convenience, private shuttle buses will run to and from the “SYGGROU-FIX” metro and tram stations. If you prefer, you may use one of the following public transportation buses to leave the SNFCC.

    From “EVGENIDIO” bus stop: 550, B2
    From “ONASSIO” bus stop: 126, 229, 550, Β2
    From “TZITZIFIES” tram station at little Poseidonos Avenue

  • Race procedures

    Race number and materials pick up
    For your convenience, you may pick up your race number and race bag at the SNF RUN booth located at the Panathenaic Stadium entrance at the following dates and times:

    • Saturday, June 17 from 10:00 to 21:00
    • Sunday, June 18 from 10:00 to 21:00
    • Monday, June 19 from 12:00 to 18:00
    • Tuesday, June 20 from 15:00 to 21:00
    • Wednesday, June 21 from 15:00 to 21:00
    • Thursday, June 22 from 15:00 to 21:00

    There is absolutely no pick up on the day of the race (June 23rd). Shirt size is subject to availability. Pick up your registration package early to receive your preferred size. Help us by having your registration email confirmation with you.

    The Start
    Participants must plan to arrive at the start at least an hour before the scheduled starting time.

    Entry to the Panathenaic Stadium will be permitted after 20:00. All runners are responsible for arriving at their assigned corrals 20 minutes prior to the start, no later than 20:20 for the 10K and 20:30 for the 6K.

    After 20:35, the corrals will close as the organizers will prepare for the race’s start.

    In order to ensure a safe and fun race for all, please enter the corral you were assigned to.

    Bag check
    If you wish to check in personal items prior to the race, please bring these along in the SNF RUN official bag provided during your bib/materials pick up. Please attach the provided sticker with your bib number on the bag and hand it to bag check, located near the race start, by 20:15. Please note that only SNF RUN official bags will be accepted. You may retrieve the bag with your personal belongings after crossing the finish line. Race officials will direct you to the pickup location and you may claim your personal belongings by showing your race bib number.

    Support stations
    10K: Water will be available at the start and finish lines, and on two (2) fluid stations, roughly at the 3rd km mark, “Vas. Amalias Avenue” and “Vas. Olgas Avenue” and at the 7th km. mark on Syggrou Avenue. across from “Agios Sostis”

    6K: Water will be available at the start and finish lines, and on one fluid station, roughly halfway through the race, at the 3 km mark, on Syggrou Avenue across from “Agios Sostis”

    Time Limit
    The race course will remain open for 2 hours, until 22.40. During the race, streets will be closed to traffic by the Hellenic Police. Those participants who are not able to complete the race by this time, are personally liable for their safety and should move over to the sidewalk. There will be a private bus at the tail end of the race collecting runners in need.

    Runner Numbers/Bibs
    Your official race number must be fully visible at all times, when entering the race start, during the run, and when crossing the finish line. Participants who fail to display their bib number risk being denied amenities and the finishers’ medal.

  • Medical Services

    SNF RUN is medically supported by the 1st Orthopaedic Department, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Doctors, medical staff, and ambulances will be available to offer medical assistance.

    Αll participants agreed on a waiver when they signed in for the run, that they are properly trained and physically prepared to participate. Participants are advised to check with their doctors prior to signing up and competing.

  • More Useful Information
    • Respect and follow the instructions given by the event officials.
    • Attention: The Panathenaic Stadium is an archeological site. It is absolutely prohibited to eat, drink, or smoke in the premises.
    • Do not forget to warm up prior to the start.
    • Consume a meal at least two hours prior to running.
    • Hydrate properly and adequately, before and during the run.
    • Consult your physician if you have any medical issues.
    • Respect your pace and your abilities. Do not overreach by trying to follow faster runners.
    • Do not litter on the course, in the start and finish areas.
    • Enjoy your run and avoid conflicts with other runners and event officials.
    • Avoid any criticism of other participants, volunteers, officials, or other services providers. Refrain from the use of any offensive or aggressive language.
    • Participants are not allowed to run with pets.
    • You may not use headphones during the race.
  • Safety and prohibited items

    The safety of all participants and spectators is our highest priority. To this end, we are fortunate to work in close collaboration with the Hellenic Police, the Traffic Police, the Fire Department and the 1st Orthopaedic Department, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

    In order to ensure safety for all, please read and abide by the following list of prohibited items. The list concerns the Panathenaic Stadium start area, the run course and the SNFCC and finish line. Preemptive visual baggage checks may be performed.

    • Possession and use of alcohol and illegal objects and/or substances is prohibited, including, but not limited to, weapons, sharp objects, fireworks, drugs etc.
    • Glass containers are forbidden.
    • Costumes that cover the face and any bulky outfits extending beyond the perimeter of the body, are not allowed.
    • Visitors are required to comply with the suggestions of the organizers and security personnel.
